"You Don't Get Out" - A Bloody Short from TBR Video

TBR Video's VIMEO page is the definition of "Free Streaming Movies". There are currently a dozen videos there for your enjoyment, mostly shorts, one "outtakes" video and a few festival "sweethearts" and all free to stream just for visiting. (At least I haven't come across one that costs.  Someone please correct me in the comments if I am wrong.)

Earlier in this blog I reviewed "Experiment TC-9585", which I thoroughly enjoyed.

This time around I take a look at "You Don't Get Out", a four minute(ish) short that's more blood than plot.  Right off, I'll admit, that this is less the type of horror that I like than TC-9585, so take my review with a grain of salt.

Since the movie is only four minutes and 20 some odd seconds long, there isn't a lot of story to get into, so I won't.  Basically it plays out like the opening scene to a feature or a mid season episode of a web series.  In either of those contexts it's pretty good.  If there's more of this story to be told, I would watch it.  On the flip side, it suffers from some of the drawbacks most movies this short do.  There's not a lot of time to get invested in the characters, so either you care what happens to the leading lady, or you don't.  We're not given a lot of background on her to help us "relate", so really, it's up to the viewer to be empathetic to an "everyone" type of person when the blood starts to fly.

The suspense is built through music and mundane activities, like showering, being observed by the camera's voyeuristic lens. There are one two moments of "jump scare" and a fair amount of blood for a movie that doesn't have a ton of time to show it to you.

All in all, if you have five minutes to kill and like 70s and 80s stalker movies this is one to watch.  It's sort of liking watching a baseball game when your team isn't playing.  You don't really have anyone to root for, but can still appreciate the sport.

And, if you find yourself always looking for something genre related to watch, put TBR's channel in your favorites.  They're pretty prolific, so you'll be able to fill that need pretty often.
